Method

Meatballs Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix Meatball Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined.

  2. 2

    Form Meatballs

Using your hands, form the mixture into small balls, about 1 inch in diameter. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  3. 3

    Bake Meatballs

Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F) and bake the meatballs for 20 minutes, or until browned and cooked through.

Spaghetti Cooking

  1. 4

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring 4 litres of water to a boil. Add 1 tablespoon of salt to the water.

  2. 5

    Cook Spaghetti

Add the spaghetti to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions, usually 8-10 minutes, until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Tomato Sauce Preparation

  1. 6

    Sauté Vegetables

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Then add minced garlic and sauté for another minute.

  2. 7

    Add Tomatoes and Seasoning

Stir in crushed canned tomatoes, dried basil, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Bring to a simmer and cook for 15 minutes to allow flavors to meld.

  3. 8

    Combine Sauce with Meatballs

Once the meatballs are baked, add them to the sauce and let simmer for an additional 5 minutes.

Assembly

  1. 9

    Serve

On each plate, place a serving of spaghetti, top with meatballs, and ladle the tomato sauce over the top. Garnish with additional Parmesan cheese and parsley, if desired.
