Method
Cooking the Pasta
- 1
Boil the Pasta
In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the fettuccine and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve 1 cup of pasta water, then drain the pasta.
Making the Cream Sauce
- 2
Prepare the Sauce
In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant. Pour in the heavy cream and bring to a gentle simmer.
- 3
Season the Sauce
Stir in the salt and black pepper. Allow to simmer for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly.
- 4
Combine with Pasta
Add the cooked fettuccine to the skillet and toss to coat in the sauce. If the sauce is too thick, add a little reserved pasta water until the desired consistency is reached.
- 5
Finish with Cheese
Remove the skillet from heat and stir in the grated Parmesan cheese until melted and combined.
Serving
- 6
Plate and Serve
Serve immediately in bowls, garnished with additional Parmesan cheese and a sprinkle of freshly ground black pepper, if desired.
