Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Pork

Trim excess fat from the pork shoulder and cut it into smaller chunks for even cooking.

  2. 2

    Mix Marinade

In a large bowl, combine orange juice, lime juice, minced garlic, chopped onion, cumin powder, oregano, salt, and black pepper.

  3. 3

    Marinate the Pork

Add the pork shoulder chunks to the marinade, mix well, and let it marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or overnight for best flavor.

  4. 4

    Cook the Pork

In a slow cooker, add the marinated pork along with the marinade, bay leaves, and water. Cook on low for 8 hours or on high for 4 hours until the pork is tender.

  5. 5

    Shred the Pork

Once cooked, remove the pork from the slow cooker, shred it with two forks, and discard any remaining fat or bay leaves.

  6. 6

    Crisp the Pork (Optional)

For added texture, spread the shredded pork on a baking sheet and broil for 5-7 minutes until crispy edges form.

  7. 7

    Serve

Serve the carnitas in tacos, burritos, or on their own with your favorite toppings.
