Method

Cheese Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Mozzarella

Cut the fresh mozzarella cheese into thick slices, about 1/2 inch each. Lay the slices on a paper towel to absorb excess moisture.

  2. 2

    Set up the Breading Station

In three separate shallow bowls, place the flour in the first bowl, whisk the eggs in the second bowl, and place the breadcrumbs mixed with salt and black pepper in the third bowl.

Breading the Cheese

  1. 3

    Bread the Mozzarella

Dredge each slice of mozzarella in the flour, shaking off any excess. Dip it into the beaten eggs, allowing the excess to drip off. Finally, coat the slice with the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere.

  2. 4

    Repeat

Repeat the breading process for all mozzarella slices and place them on a plate.

Frying

  1. 5

    Heat the Oil

In a deep skillet or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches about 350°F (175°C).

  2. 6

    Fry the Mozzarella

Carefully place a few breaded mozzarella slices into the hot oil, being sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.

  3. 7

    Drain the Fried Mozzarella

Use a slotted spoon to remove the fried mozzarella from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain the excess oil.

Serving

  1. 8

    Serve

Arrange the fried mozzarella on a serving platter. Serve hot with marinara sauce for dipping and garnish with fresh basil leaves.
