Method
Cake Directions
- 1
Prepare the Oven and Pans
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
- 3
- 4
Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures
Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
- 5
Add Boiling Water
Slowly stir in the boiling water. The batter will be thin, but this is normal.
- 6
Bake the Cake
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- 7
Cool the Cakes
Once baked, remove from the oven and let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, remove from pans and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Ganache Directions
- 8
Heat the Cream
In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it begins to simmer. Do not boil.
- 9
Melt the Chocolate
Remove the saucepan from heat and add the semi-sweet chocolate chips. Let it sit for 2-3 minutes, then stir until smooth.
- 10
Add Butter
Stir in the unsalted butter until fully melted and combined.
- 11
Cool the Ganache
Let the ganache cool slightly at room temperature until it thickens but is still pourable.
- 12
Assemble the Cake
Place one layer of the cooled cake on a serving plate. Pour half of the ganache over the first layer, then add the second layer and pour the remaining ganache over the top.
- 13
Set and Serve
Allow the ganache to set for about 30 minutes before slicing and serving the cake.
