Method
Preparing the Salad Base
- 1
Wash and Chop Romaine
Rinse the romaine lettuce under cold water. Remove the outer leaves and any damaged parts. Chop the lettuce into bite-sized pieces and pat dry with a clean towel or use a salad spinner.
Making the Caesar Dressing
- 2
Blend Ingredients
In a food processor, combine the garlic, anchovy fillets, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, and salt. Pulse until smooth.
- 3
Add Olive Oil
With the processor running, slowly drizzle in the olive oil until emulsified and creamy.
- 4
Incorporate Parmesan
Add the grated Parmesan cheese and blend until well incorporated. Season with black pepper to taste.
Making the Croutons
- 5
Prepare the Bread
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Cut the bread into small cubes, approximately 1-inch in size.
- 6
Toss with Seasoning
In a large bowl, combine the bread cubes with olive oil, garlic powder, and salt. Toss until the bread is evenly coated.
- 7
Bake Croutons
Spread the bread cubes in a single layer on a baking sheet and bake for 10-15 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy, stirring halfway through.
Assembling the Salad
- 8
Combine Ingredients
In a large salad bowl, add the chopped romaine lettuce. Drizzle with the Caesar dressing and toss gently to coat the lettuce evenly.
- 9
Add Croutons and Serve
Top the salad with homemade croutons and additional grated Parmesan cheese, if desired. Serve immediately.
