Sushi Ingredients

Method

Preparation Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Sushi Rice

Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Combine the rice and water in a rice cooker or pot, and cook according to the rice cooker's instructions or bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes. Once cooked, let it sit for 10 minutes off heat.

  2. 2

    Season the Rice

In a small bowl, mix the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until dissolved. Pour this mixture over the warm rice and gently fold it in with a spatula. Allow the rice to cool to room temperature.

  3. 3

    Assemble the Roll

Place a bamboo sushi mat on a flat surface. Lay the nori sheet shiny side down. Wet your hands to prevent sticking and take a handful of sushi rice (approximately 1/2 cup) and spread it evenly over the nori, leaving about 1 inch at the top edge.

  4. 4

    Add Fillings

Arrange the yellowtail slices, julienned cucumber, and avocado slices in a line along the center of the rice-covered nori.

  5. 5

    Roll the Sushi

Using the bamboo mat, carefully lift the edge of the mat closest to you and roll it away from you, tucking the filling in as you roll. Continue rolling until you reach the exposed edge of the nori. Dampen the edge with a little water to seal the roll.

  6. 6

    Slice and Serve

Using a sharp knife, slice the roll into 6 pieces. Serve with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger on the side.
