Baklawa Ingredients

Method

Instructions

1

Prepare the Butter

Melt the unsalted butter in a saucepan over low heat. Once melted, remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

2

Prepare the Nut Filling

In a mixing bowl, combine chopped nuts, granulated sugar, and ground cinnamon. Mix well and set aside.

3

Layer the Phyllo Dough

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with some melted butter. Lay one sheet of phyllo dough in the dish and brush with melted butter. Repeat this process, layering about 8 sheets of phyllo, each brushed with butter.

4

Add the Nut Mixture

Spread a layer of the nut mixture evenly over the phyllo layers. Continue layering phyllo sheets (brushing each with butter) and adding the nut mixture, until all nuts are used, finishing with at least 8 layers of phyllo on top.

5

Cut the Baklawa

Using a sharp knife, cut the baklawa into diamond or square shapes before baking.

6

Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for about 45-50 minutes, or until the baklawa is golden brown.

7

Prepare the Syrup

While the baklawa is baking, combine water, honey, and vanilla extract in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 10 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to cool.

8

Drizzle the Syrup

Once the baklawa is done baking, remove it from the oven and immediately pour the cooled syrup over the hot baklawa. Allow it to soak for several hours or overnight.
