Dough Ingredients
Tandoori Marinade Ingredients
Method
Preparing the Dough
- 1
Mix the Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, and salt. Mix well until fully combined.
- 2
Add Wet Ingredients
Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and add the yogurt, oil, and water. Stir with a wooden spoon until the dough starts to come together.
- 3
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. If the dough is sticky, sprinkle a little more flour as needed.
- 4
Rest the Dough
Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for at least 30 minutes. This helps to relax the gluten.
Preparing the Tandoori Marinade
- 5
Combine the Marinade Ingredients
In a separate bowl, mix together the plain yogurt, garam masala, ground cumin, paprika, turmeric powder, ginger paste, garlic paste, lemon juice, and salt until smooth.
- 6
Add Fresh Cilantro
Chop the cilantro finely and fold it into the marinade mixture.
Cooking the Roti
- 7
Divide the Dough
After resting, divide the dough into equal-sized balls, about the size of a golf ball.
- 8
Roll Out the Roti
On a lightly floured surface, take one ball of dough and roll it out into a thin circle, about 6-8 inches in diameter.
- 9
Heat the Tandoor or Skillet
Preheat your tandoor or a cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat until hot.
- 10
Cook the Roti
Place the rolled-out roti on the hot surface. Cook for about 1-2 minutes until bubbles form, then flip and cook the other side for another 1-2 minutes or until slightly charred.
- 11
Brush with Marinade
Once cooked, brush the hot roti with the tandoori marinade and serve immediately.
