Method

Cooking Rice

  1. 1

    Rinse the Rice

Rinse the basmati rice under cold running water until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch and helps the rice remain fluffy.

  2. 2

    Cook the Rice

In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed basmati rice and water. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until the rice is cooked and water is absorbed. Remove from heat and let it sit covered for 5 minutes.

Stir-Frying

  1. 3

    Prepare the Vegetables

While the rice is cooking, prepare the vegetables by dicing the carrot and bell pepper, and chopping the green onions.

  2. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large skillet or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat.

  3. 5

    Cook the Vegetables

Add the diced carrot and bell pepper to the skillet. Stir-fry for about 2-3 minutes until they start to soften. Then add the green peas and chopped green onions, and continue to stir-fry for another 2 minutes.

  4. 6

    Add the Rice

Fluff the cooked basmati rice with a fork and add it to the skillet with the vegetables. Mix well.

  5. 7

    Season the Rice

Pour the soy sauce over the rice and sprinkle with salt and black pepper. Stir everything together until well combined and heated through.

Add Optional Protein

  1. 8

    Incorporate Chicken (if using)

If you opted for chicken, add the cooked and diced chicken breast to the skillet after adding the rice. Stir well to combine and heat through.

Serve

  1. 9

    Plate and Enjoy

Serve the fried rice hot, garnished with additional chopped green onions if desired. Enjoy your delicious homemade fried rice!
