Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Ziti

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the ziti pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes. Once cooked, drain the pasta and set aside.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Marinara Sauce

In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute, until fragrant. Stir in the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Bring the sauce to a simmer, reduce the heat to low, and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

Once the sauce has thickened, stir in the fresh basil and cooked ziti pasta. Make sure the pasta is well-coated with the sauce.

  4. 4

    Assemble with Cheese

In a large baking dish, spread half of the ziti mixture, then dollop half of the ricotta cheese on top. Sprinkle with half of the mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. Repeat with the remaining ziti, ricotta, and cheeses.

  5. 5

    Bake the Ziti

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the assembled ziti for about 25-30 minutes, until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

  6. 6

    Serve

Remove the ziti from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your delicious Ziti Marinara!
