Method

Cooking the Rice

1

Step 1: Rinse the Rice

Rinse 1 cup of rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch and prevents the rice from becoming gummy.

2

Step 2: Cook the Rice

In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed rice and 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 15 minutes or until the rice is tender and the water is absorbed.

Making the Pudding

3

Step 3: Add Milk and Sugar

Once the rice is cooked, stir in 3 cups of milk and 1 cup of sugar into the saucepan. Mix well to combine.

4

Step 4: Flavor the Pudding

Add 1 tsp of vanilla extract, 1 tsp of cinnamon, and a pinch of salt to the mixture. Stir and bring to a gentle boil over medium heat.

5

Step 5: Simmer

Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer uncovered for about 30 minutes, stirring frequently until the pudding thickens to your desired consistency.

Serving the Pudding

6

Step 6: Serve

Once the pudding has thickened, remove it from heat. Spoon the rice pudding into serving dishes and let it cool slightly.

7

Step 7: Add Toppings

Sprinkle 1 tsp of ground cinnamon on top of each serving. Add raisins and chopped nuts as desired for added flavor and texture.
