Dry Ingredients

Wet Ingredients

Method

Preparing the Dough

  1. 1

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, salt, sugar, and instant yeast until evenly mixed.

  2. 2

    Mix Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, combine the warm water and olive oil. Stir gently to combine.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients

Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the wet mixture. Stir with a wooden spoon until the dough begins to form.

  4. 4

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Add more flour if the dough is too sticky.

  5. 5

    First Rise

Place the kneaded dough into a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a damp cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.

Shaping and Baking

  1. 6

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If you have a baking stone, place it in the oven to heat up.

  2. 7

    Divide the Dough

Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Divide the dough into 8 equal portions and shape each portion into a ball.

  3. 8

    Roll Out the Dough

On a lightly floured surface, use a rolling pin to roll each ball into a flat circle about 1/4 inch thick.

  4. 9

    Bake the Pita Bread

Carefully place the rolled-out dough onto the hot baking stone or a baking sheet. Bake for 5-7 minutes, or until the pita puff up and are lightly golden.

  5. 10

    Cool the Pita

Remove the pita bread from the oven and cover them with a clean cloth to keep warm as they cool slightly.
