Meatballs

Method

Meatballs

  1. 1

    Prepare the Meatball Mixture

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, Italian sausage, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Mix with your hands until well combined.

  2. 2

    Form Meatballs

Roll the mixture into golf ball-sized meatballs and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  3. 3

    Bake the Meatballs

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and bake the meatballs for 20-25 minutes or until cooked through and browned.

Marinara Sauce

  1. 4

    Sauté the Onions and Garlic

In a large saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and sauté for another minute.

  2. 5

    Combine Ingredients for Sauce

Stir in the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Let the sauce simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  3. 6

    Add Fresh Basil

Remove the sauce from heat and stir in the chopped fresh basil. Set aside.

Assemble the Grinders

  1. 7

    Prepare the Sub Rolls

Slice the sub rolls lengthwise, without cutting all the way through, to create a pocket for the meatballs.

  2. 8

    Add Meatballs and Sauce

Place 3-4 meatballs into each sub roll and spoon marinara sauce over the top.

  3. 9

    Top with Mozzarella

Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese generously over the meatballs and sauce.

  4. 10

    Bake the Grinders

Place the assembled grinders on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

  5. 11

    Serve

Remove from the oven, garnish with fresh basil leaves, and serve hot.
