Shrimp Preparation

Batter Mixture

Method

Shrimp Preparation

  1. 1

    Season the Shrimp

In a large bowl, combine the peeled and deveined jumbo shrimp with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper. Toss to ensure all shrimp are evenly coated with the seasoning.

Batter Mixture

  1. 2

    Prepare the Batter

In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, and baking powder. In another bowl, mix together the water and egg until well combined. Gradually pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, whisking until you achieve a smooth batter.

Frying

  1. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). To test if the oil is ready, drop a small amount of batter into the oil; if it sizzles immediately, the oil is hot enough.

  2. 4

    Fry the Shrimp

Dip each seasoned shrimp into the batter, allowing the excess to drip off. Carefully place the battered shrimp into the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove the shrimp from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Garnish

  1. 5

    Serve

Arrange the fried shrimp on a serving platter. Garnish with lemon wedges and sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley before serving.
