Main Ingredients

Method

Preparation of Corned Beef

  1. 1

    Rinse the Corned Beef

Begin by rinsing the corned beef brisket under cold water to remove any excess salt and brine.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Pot

In a large pot or Dutch oven, add the rinsed corned beef and cover it with water. Make sure the water is enough to submerge the brisket completely.

  3. 3

    Add Pickling Spice

Stir in the pickling spice into the water with the corned beef. This will add flavor to the meat as it cooks.

  4. 4

    Bring to a Boil

Cover the pot and bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer.

  5. 5

    Simmer the Corned Beef

Allow the corned beef to simmer for about 2.5 to 3 hours, or until it is tender. Check occasionally and skim off any foam that rises to the surface.

Adding Vegetables

  1. 6

    Add Carrots and Potatoes

After 2.5 hours, add the carrots and potatoes to the pot. Stir gently to ensure they are submerged in the cooking liquid.

  2. 7

    Continue Cooking

Cover the pot again and continue simmering for an additional 30 minutes.

  3. 8

    Add Cabbage

After 30 minutes, add the cabbage wedges to the pot. Stir gently and cover to cook for another 15-20 minutes, or until all vegetables are tender.

Finishing Up

  1. 9

    Remove and Rest

Once the corned beef and vegetables are tender, carefully remove the brisket from the pot and place it on a cutting board. Let it rest for about 10-15 minutes.

  2. 10

    Slice and Serve

Slice the corned beef against the grain into thin slices. Serve with the cooked vegetables and a ladle of the cooking liquid for added flavor.
