Preparation Steps
Prepare the Cream Mixture
In a large mixing bowl, combine the mascarpone cheese, heavy cream, and powdered sugar. Use an electric mixer to whip the mixture until soft peaks form.
Prepare the Coffee Mixture
In a shallow dish, combine the brewed coffee and coffee liqueur (if using). Mix well.
Layer the Ladyfingers
Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, ensuring they are soaked but not soggy. Arrange a layer of dipped ladyfingers in the bottom of a half pan (9x13 inches).
Add the Cream Layer
Spread half of the mascarpone cream mixture over the layer of ladyfingers, smoothing it out evenly.
Repeat Layering
Add another layer of dipped ladyfingers followed by the remaining mascarpone cream mixture. Smooth the top with a spatula.
Chill and Serve
Cover the pan with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight. Before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder and garnish with dark chocolate shavings.
