Flan Base

Caramel Sauce

Method

Preparation of Caramel

  1. 1

    Make the Caramel Sauce

In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup of sugar and 1 tablespoon of water. Cook over medium heat, swirling the pan occasionally until the sugar dissolves and turns a golden brown color. Be careful not to let it burn.

  2. 2

Quickly pour the caramel into a round baking dish, tilting the dish to coat the bottom evenly. Set aside to cool and harden.

Flan Preparation

  1. 3

    Prepare the Flan Mixture

In a mixing bowl, whisk together 1 cup of coconut milk, 1 cup of sweetened condensed milk, 4 eggs, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract until smooth and well combined.

  2. 4

    Blend the Mixtures

Pour the flan mixture over the caramel in the baking dish, ensuring not to disturb the caramel.

  3. 5

    Bake the Flan

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the baking dish in a larger baking pan filled with hot water to create a water bath. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the flan is set and a knife inserted comes out clean.

  4. 6

    Cool and Serve

Once baked, remove the flan from the oven and let it cool at room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight. To serve, run a knife along the edges of the flan, invert onto a serving plate, and let the caramel sauce drizzle over the top.
