Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Apples

Core and chop the fresh apples into quarters. There's no need to peel them, as the skin will add flavor and color to the cider.

  2. 2

    Combine Ingredients

In a large pot, combine the chopped apples, water, cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, and sugar.

  3. 3

    Cook the Mixture

Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 1 hour.

  4. 4

    Mash the Apples

After simmering, use a potato masher or a large spoon to mash the apples to release their juices.

  5. 5

    Strain the Cider

Place a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth over a large bowl and pour the apple mixture into it. Allow the liquid to strain through, discarding the solids.

  6. 6

    Add Lemon Juice

Stir in the lemon juice to the strained cider for added brightness.

  7. 7

    Serve

Serve the apple cider warm or chilled. Optionally, garnish with extra cinnamon sticks or apple slices.
