Method

Prepare the Onions

  1. 1

    Slice the Onions

Peel the large onions and slice them into 1/4 inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set them aside.

Make the Batter

  1. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Stir well to combine.

  2. 3

    Add Ice Water

Gradually add the ice water to the dry mixture, whisking until you achieve a smooth, thick batter. Let it rest for 10 minutes.

Fry the Onion Rings

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches about 350°F (175°C).

  2. 5

    Coat the Onions

Dip each onion ring into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated. Allow excess batter to drip off.

  3. 6

    Fry the Onion Rings

Carefully place the battered onion rings into the hot oil in batches. Fry for 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.

  4. 7

    Drain and Serve

Remove the fried onion rings from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve hot with your choice of dipping sauce.
