Method
Steak Preparation
- 1
Tenderize the Steak
Use a meat mallet to tenderize the cube steak until it is about 1/2 inch thick. This helps to break down the fibers for a more tender bite.
- 2
Prepare the Batter
In a medium bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and egg until well combined. In another bowl, mix the flour, salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder.
- 3
Coat the Steak
Dip each piece of tenderized steak first into the buttermilk mixture, allowing excess to drip off, then coat it with the flour mixture. Make sure the steak is fully covered.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 5
Fry the Steak
Carefully place the coated steak in the hot oil. Fry for about 3-4 minutes per side or until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
Sandwich Assembly
- 6
Prepare the Vegetables
Slice the onion and tomato. Wash and dry the lettuce leaves.
- 7
Toast the Buns
Lightly grill or toast the potato buns until golden brown.
- 8
Assemble the Sandwich
Spread mayonnaise on the bottom half of each toasted bun. Place the fried steak on top, followed by pickles, onion, lettuce, and tomato. Top with the other half of the bun.
- 9
Serve with Fries
Fry the crinkle cut fries according to the package instructions and serve on the side of the sandwich.
