For the Onion Rings
Method
Instructions
- 1
Prepare the Onions
Peel the onions and slice them into 1/4 inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set aside.
- 2
Make the Batter
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Gradually add the cold water while whisking until the batter is smooth and thick.
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 4
Coat and Fry the Onion Rings
Dip each onion ring into the batter, allowing excess to drip off. Carefully place them in the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- 5
Drain and Serve
Remove the onion rings with a slotted spoon and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
