Method

Preparing the Beef

  1. 1

    Season the Steak

In a bowl, combine salt, black pepper, garlic powder, ground cumin, and paprika. Rub this spice mixture all over the beef steak to ensure it is well-seasoned.

  2. 2

    Sear the Steak

Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the seasoned beef steak and sear for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until your desired doneness is reached.

  3. 3

    Rest the Steak

Remove the steak from the skillet and let it rest for about 5 minutes before slicing. This helps retain the juices.

Preparing the Vegetables

  1. 4

    Slice the Vegetables

While the steak is resting, slice the green bell pepper and onion into thin strips.

  2. 5

    Sauté the Vegetables

In the same skillet used for the steak, add the sliced green bell pepper and onion. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes until they are soft and slightly caramelized.

Assembling the Sandwich

  1. 6

    Slice the Steak

After resting, slice the beef steak thinly against the grain.

  2. 7

    Build the Sandwich

On each sandwich roll, layer some sautéed vegetables, followed by sliced steak. Add optional toppings like lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise if desired.

  3. 8

    Serve

Serve the sandwich warm and enjoy your delicious Somali Steak Sandwich.
