Method

Preparing the Patty

  1. 1

    Mix the Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix gently until just combined; do not overwork the meat.

  2. 2

    Form the Patties

Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape each into a patty that is about 3/4 inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent it from puffing up while cooking.

Cooking the Patty

  1. 3

    Preheat the Grill or Skillet

Preheat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat. If using a skillet, lightly grease it with cooking oil.

  2. 4

    Cook the Patties

Place the patties on the grill or skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side. Flip them and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes for medium-rare, or to your desired doneness.

  3. 5

    Add Cheese (Optional)

If using cheese, place a slice on each patty during the last minute of cooking to allow it to melt.

Assembling the Burger

  1. 6

    Prepare the Vegetables

While the patties are cooking, wash the lettuce leaves, slice the tomato, and thinly slice the onion.

  2. 7

    Toast the Buns (Optional)

If desired, lightly toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster.

  3. 8

    Assemble the Burger

On the bottom half of each bun, layer lettuce, the cooked patty, tomato slices, and onion slices. Add ketchup and mustard to taste, then top with the other half of the bun.
