Method

Cooking Spaghetti

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring water to a boil over high heat.

  2. 2

    Add Salt

Once boiling, add 1 tablespoon of salt to the water.

  3. 3

    Cook Spaghetti

Add 400g of spaghetti to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.

  4. 4

    Drain and Set Aside

Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside.

Making Bolognese Sauce

  1. 5

    Sauté Vegetables

In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add 1 diced medium onion, 1 diced medium carrot, and 1 diced medium celery stalk. Sauté for about 5 minutes until the vegetables are soft.

  2. 6

    Add Garlic

Mince 2 cloves of garlic and add them to the skillet. Sauté for an additional minute until fragrant.

  3. 7

    Brown the Meat

Add 500g of ground beef to the skillet. Cook, breaking it apart, until browned (about 5-7 minutes).

  4. 8

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Stir in 400g of canned tomatoes, 2 tablespoons of tomato paste, 1 teaspoon of dried oregano, 1 teaspoon of dried basil, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of black pepper.

  5. 9

    Add Wine

Pour in 100ml of red wine and bring the mixture to a simmer. Cook for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  6. 10

    Finish the Sauce

Once the sauce has thickened, adjust seasoning if necessary. Remove from heat.

Serving

  1. 11

    Combine and Serve

Serve the spaghetti topped with the Bolognese sauce. Grate 50g of Parmesan cheese over the top before serving.
