Method

Pasta Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Pasta

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the penne pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.

  2. 2

    Drain the Pasta

Once cooked, drain the pasta in a colander and set aside. Do not rinse.

Marinara Sauce Preparation

  1. 3

    Heat the Olive Oil

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.

  2. 4

    Sauté the Garlic

Add the minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

  3. 5

    Add the Tomatoes

Pour in the canned crushed tomatoes and stir to combine with the garlic.

  4. 6

    Season the Sauce

Add the dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper to the sauce. Stir well and allow the sauce to simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Combine and Serve

  1. 7

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Once the marinara sauce has thickened slightly, add the drained penne pasta to the skillet. Toss to coat the pasta evenly with the sauce.

  2. 8

    Garnish and Serve

Remove from heat, garnish with fresh chopped basil leaves, and serve hot.
