Prepare the Onions
Slice the medium onion into thin rings. In a skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Add the onions, season with salt and pepper, and sauté until they are caramelized, about 10-15 minutes. Remove from skillet and set aside.

Form the Patties
In a bowl, season the ground beef with salt and pepper. Divide the beef into two equal portions and shape them into burger patties.

Cook the Patties
In the same skillet used for the onions, add another tablespoon of butter and increase the heat to medium-high. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until they reach your desired doneness. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of Swiss cheese on each patty to melt.

Grill the Sandwich
Cook the sandwiches for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the toast is golden brown and crispy. Remove from skillet, slice in half, and serve immediately.
