Method
Cooking Directions
- 1
Prepare the onions
Peel and slice the onions into 1/4-inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set aside.
- 2
Make the batter
In a mixing bowl, combine flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. In another bowl, whisk together the egg and milk. Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until smooth.
- 3
Coat the onion rings
Dip each onion ring into the batter, allowing excess to drip off. Then, coat each ring with breadcrumbs.
- 4
Heat the oil
In a deep frying pan, heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 5
Fry the onion rings
Carefully add the coated onion rings to the hot oil in batches. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- 6
Serve
Serve the onion rings hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
