Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Cut in Butter

Add the unsalted butter to the dry ingredients and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut it into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  4. 4

    Add Buttermilk

Pour in the buttermilk and stir gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; the dough should be slightly sticky.

  5. 5

    Shape the Biscuits

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it comes together. Pat it into a 1-inch thick rectangle. Use a biscuit cutter to cut out biscuits and place them onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  6. 6

    Bake

Bake the biscuits in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until they are golden brown on top.

  7. 7

    Prepare Whipped Molasses-Butter

While the biscuits are baking, whip together 1/4 cup softened butter with 2 tbs molasses until smooth and creamy.

  8. 8

    Serve

Remove the biscuits from the oven and serve warm with the whipped molasses-butter and locally sourced honey.
