Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Marinate the Chicken

In a large bowl, combine the chicken pieces with the Berbere spice blend, garlic, ginger, and salt. Mix well to coat the chicken evenly. Cover and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.

  2. 2

    Sauté Onions

In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown, about 10-15 minutes.

  3. 3

    Add Chicken and Tomato Paste

Add the marinated chicken to the pot and cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Then, stir in the tomato paste and cook for an additional 5 minutes.

  4. 4

    Add Water and Simmer

Pour in the water, bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer. Cover and let it cook for about 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the chicken is tender and the sauce has thickened, stirring occasionally.

  5. 5

    Boil the Eggs

While the chicken is cooking, boil the eggs in a separate pot until hard-boiled. Peel and set aside.

  6. 6

    Serve the Doro Wot

Once the chicken is cooked, serve it hot with the boiled eggs and Ethiopian cottage cheese on the side. Enjoy with injera or rice.
