Base Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Coffee Mixture
Brew the espresso coffee and let it cool slightly. Mix in the sugar and coffee liqueur (if using) until dissolved.
- 2
Dip Ladyfingers
Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, ensuring they are soaked but not soggy. Arrange them in a single layer at the bottom of a 9x13 inch dish.
Filling Preparation
- 3
Prepare the Mascarpone Mixture
In a large bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and powdered sugar until pale and creamy. Add the mascarpone cheese and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth.
- 4
Whip the Cream
In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until well combined.
Assembly
- 5
Layer the Filling
Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the layer of ladyfingers in the dish. Repeat with another layer of dipped ladyfingers and then top with the remaining mascarpone mixture.
- 6
Chill
Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight to allow the flavors to meld.
Finishing Touch
- 7
Dust with Cocoa
Before serving, dust the top of the tiramisu with cocoa powder using a fine sieve for an even layer.
- 8
Serve
Slice and serve chilled. Enjoy your classic tiramisu!
