Challah Bread
Method
Preparation
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
Mix Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture, eggs, vegetable oil, and honey. Mix until a dough forms.
Knead Dough
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
First Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
Shape Challah
Punch down the dough, then divide it into three equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long strand and braid them together. Place the braided dough on a greased baking sheet.
Second Rise
Cover the braided dough with a cloth and let it rise for another 30-45 minutes.
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Cool
Remove from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing.
