Base Ingredients

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Espresso

Brew one cup of strong espresso coffee and let it cool to room temperature. If desired, mix in coffee liqueur for added flavor.

  2. 2

    Separate the Eggs

Carefully separate the egg yolks and egg whites into two different bowls.

  3. 3

    Whip the Egg Yolks

In the bowl with the egg yolks, add ½ cup sugar and vanilla extract. Use a hand mixer to beat until the mixture is pale and fluffy.

  4. 4

    Add Mascarpone

Gently fold in the mascarpone cheese to the egg yolk mixture until smooth and well combined.

  5. 5

    Whip the Egg Whites

In a separate bowl, whip the egg whites until soft peaks form. Gradually add the remaining ½ cup of sugar and continue whipping until stiff peaks form.

  6. 6

    Combine Mixtures

Carefully fold the whipped egg whites into the mascarpone-egg yolk mixture until fully incorporated.

  7. 7

    Whip the Heavy Cream

In another bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Gently fold this into the mascarpone mixture as well.

Assembly

  1. 8

    Dip Ladyfingers

Quickly dip each ladyfinger cookie into the cooled espresso, ensuring they are soaked but not soggy.

  2. 9

    Layer the Ingredients

In a 9x13 inch dish, create a layer of dipped ladyfingers at the bottom. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.

  3. 10

    Repeat Layers

Add another layer of dipped ladyfingers followed by the remaining mascarpone mixture, smoothing the top with a spatula.

  4. 11

    Chill the Tiramisu

Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight for best results.

  5. 12

    Serve

Before serving, dust the top of the tiramisu with cocoa powder using a fine sieve. Cut into squares and enjoy!
