Method
Preparing the Patties
- 1
Mixing Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix until well combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.
- 2
Forming Patties
Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each portion into a patty, about ¾ inch thick. Make a slight indent in the center of each patty to prevent puffing during cooking.
Making the BBQ Sauce
- 3
Combine Sauce Ingredients
In a small saucepan, combine ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and salt. Mix well.
- 4
Simmer the Sauce
Heat the saucepan over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture begins to simmer. Reduce heat to low and let it cook for 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld. Remove from heat and set aside.
Cooking the Burgers
- 5
Preheat Grill
Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.
- 6
Grilling Patties
Place the patties on the grill and cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side. Flip the patties and cook for an additional 4 minutes.
- 7
Add Cheese
During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty and close the grill lid to melt the cheese.
Assembling the Burger
- 8
Prepare Buns
While the patties are cooking, slice the burger buns in half and toast them lightly on the grill until golden brown.
- 9
Build the Burger
On the bottom half of each toasted bun, place a lettuce leaf, followed by a grilled patty with melted cheese. Add a slice of tomato, pickles to taste, and drizzle with BBQ sauce. Top with the other half of the bun.
