Method

Flan Preparation

  1. 1

    Caramel

In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the sugar until it turns golden brown. Quickly pour the caramel into a flan mold, swirling to coat the bottom evenly. Set aside to harden.

  2. 2

    Flan Mixture

In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Pour the mixture over the hardened caramel in the mold.

  3. 3

    Bake

Place the flan mold in a larger baking dish filled with water (water bath). Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 50-60 minutes, or until set. Let cool before refrigerating for at least 4 hours.

Apple Topping Preparation

  1. 4

    Cook Apples

In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add sliced apples, sugar, and cinnamon. Cook until apples are tender and slightly caramelized, about 10 minutes. Set aside.

Chantilly Cream Preparation

  1. 5

    Whip Cream

In a mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until soft peaks form. Keep chilled until serving.

Assembly

  1. 6

    Serve

Invert the chilled flan onto a serving plate. Top with the caramelized apples and drizzle with dulce de leche. Serve with a dollop of chantilly cream on the side.
