Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the beans

If using dried black beans, soak them overnight in water. Drain and rinse before cooking. If using canned, rinse and drain.

  2. 2

    Cook the beans

In a large pot, combine the soaked beans (or rinsed canned beans) and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to a simmer. Cook until the beans are tender, about 1-2 hours for dried beans, or 20-30 minutes for canned beans.

  3. 3

    Sauté the aromatics

In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add diced onion and minced garlic, sautéing until translucent and fragrant, about 5-7 minutes.

  4. 4

    Combine and season

Once the beans are cooked, add them to the skillet with the onion and garlic. Stir in cumin, salt, and black pepper to taste. Cook for an additional 5-10 minutes to combine flavors.

  5. 5

    Finish with lime and cilantro

Remove from heat, stir in lime juice and chopped cilantro. Adjust seasoning if needed.

  6. 6

    Serve

Serve warm as a side dish or over rice for a complete meal.
