Torrejas Ingredients

Method

Preparation Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Egg Mixture

In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt until well combined.

  2. 2

    Dip the Bread

Soak each slice of stale bread in the egg mixture for about 30 seconds on each side, ensuring they absorb enough mixture without falling apart.

  3. 3

    Cook the Torrejas

In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the soaked bread slices and cook until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes on each side.

  4. 4

    Prepare the Syrup

While the torrejas are cooking, heat the dulce de caña syrup in a small saucepan until warm. Do not boil.

  5. 5

    Serve

Arrange the torrejas on a plate, drizzle with warm dulce de caña syrup, and top with orange zest. Serve with your choice of two eggs cooked to your liking.
