Maultaschen Filling

Method

Maultaschen Preparation

  1. 1

    Make the Filling

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, chopped onion, cooked spinach, bread crumbs, egg, salt, black pepper, and nutmeg. Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Dough

In a separate bowl, mix 400g flour, 4 eggs, and a pinch of salt until a smooth dough forms. Cover and let it rest for 30 minutes.

  3. 3

    Roll out the Dough

On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 2mm thickness. Cut into rectangles (approximately 10cm x 8cm).

  4. 4

    Fill the Dough

Place a spoonful of the filling mixture onto one half of each rectangle. Fold over the other half and press the edges to seal tightly.

  5. 5

    Cook the Maultaschen

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the Maultaschen for about 10-12 minutes or until they float to the surface.

  6. 6

    Prepare the Salad

While the Maultaschen are cooking, prepare an assorted German salad with mixed greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, and a vinaigrette dressing.

  7. 7

    Serve

Drain the Maultaschen and serve hot with the assorted salad on the side.
