Preparation Steps
- 1
Prepare the Chicken
Pound the chicken breasts to an even thickness for uniform cooking. Season with salt and pepper.
- 2
Assemble the Cordon Bleu
Place a slice of ham and a slice of Swiss cheese on each chicken breast. Fold the chicken over to enclose the filling and secure with toothpicks if necessary.
- 3
Bread the Chicken
Set up a breading station with three shallow dishes: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumbs. Dredge each chicken breast in flour, dip into egg, then coat with breadcrumbs.
- 4
Cook the Chicken
In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the breaded chicken breasts and cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- 5
Melt the Cheese
In the last few minutes of cooking, place a slice of cheese on each chicken breast and cover the skillet to allow the cheese to melt.
- 6
Prepare the Vegetables
While the chicken cooks, steam or sauté the fresh vegetables until tender.
- 7
Serve
Remove toothpicks from the chicken, slice if desired, and serve alongside the fresh vegetables.
