Cake and Filling

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Bake the Chocolate Cake

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. 3

    Add Wet Ingredients

Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla to the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined, then carefully stir in the boiling water.

  4. 4

    Bake

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

  5. 5

    Prepare Whipped Cream

In a mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar until soft peaks form.

  6. 6

    Assemble the Torte

Once cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate. Drizzle with half of the Kirsch, spread half of the cherry filling, and top with a layer of whipped cream. Repeat with the second layer.

  7. 7

    Garnish

Top the torte with additional whipped cream, chocolate shavings, and fresh cherries as desired.
