Bake the Chocolate Cake
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Bake
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Prepare Whipped Cream
In a mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar until soft peaks form.

Assemble the Torte
Once cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate. Drizzle with half of the Kirsch, spread half of the cherry filling, and top with a layer of whipped cream. Repeat with the second layer.

Garnish
Top the torte with additional whipped cream, chocolate shavings, and fresh cherries as desired.
