Quick Soy Sauce Substitute (Non-Fermented)
Method
Method
- 1
In a small saucepan over medium-low heat, whisk the miso paste with the warm water until completely dissolved and smooth.
- 2
Add brown sugar, salt, molasses, and apple cider vinegar. Whisk until the sugar and salt dissolve completely.
- 3
Stir in garlic powder, onion powder, and sesame oil. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer (about 2-3 minutes) while stirring to prevent sticking.
- 4
Taste and adjust the balance: add more sugar for sweetness, more salt for saltiness, or a splash more vinegar for tang. If a thicker sauce is desired, simmer a bit longer to reduce.
- 5
Remove from heat and cool completely. If desired, strain through a fine-mesh sieve for a smoother finish.
- 6
Transfer to a clean bottle or jar. Store refrigerated and use within 2 weeks as a quick soy sauce substitute.
