Prep and Preheat
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone mats.

Whisk dry ingredients
In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt; set aside.

Cream butter and sugars
In a large bowl, beat butter with granulated sugar and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.

Add eggs and vanilla
Beat in the egg until well combined, then mix in the vanilla extract.

Combine dry into wet
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing until just combined.

Fold in chips
Stir in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed.

Portion and bake
Scoop dough by rounded tablespoons (or a small cookie scoop) onto prepared sheets, spacing about 2 inches apart.

Bake for 9-11 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden and centers are set but still soft.

Cool and hold
Cool cookies on the baking sheets for 2 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Yield: about 12 cookies.
