  1. 1

    Prep and preheat

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone mats.

  2. 2

    Whisk dry ingredients

In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt until evenly combined.

  3. 3

    Cream butter and sugars

In a large bowl, beat the unsalted butter with granulated sugar and light brown sugar on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes.

  4. 4

    Add eggs and vanilla

Beat in the eggs one at a time, then mix in the vanilla extract until smooth.

  5. 5

    Combine wet and dry

With the mixer on low, gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter-sugar mixture until just combined. Do not overmix.

  6. 6

    Fold in chips

Stir in the semi-sweet chocolate chips until evenly distributed.

  7. 7

    Scoop dough

Spoon rounded tablespoons of dough (or use a cookie scoop) onto the prepared sheets, placing about 2 inches apart.

  8. 8

    Bake and cool

Bake 9–11 minutes, or until the edges are golden while centers remain soft. Let cookies cool on the sheets for 2 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
