Method
Cooking Directions
- 1
Marinate the Chicken
In a large bowl, combine the buttermilk, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper. Add the chicken pieces and ensure they are well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight for best results.
- 2
Prepare the Dredging Mixture
In a separate bowl, mix the all-purpose flour with a pinch of salt and black pepper. This will be used to coat the chicken.
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a large, heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 4
Dredge the Chicken
Remove the chicken from the buttermilk marinade, allowing excess liquid to drip off. Dredge each piece in the flour mixture, ensuring an even coating. Shake off any excess flour.
- 5
Fry the Chicken
Carefully place the chicken pieces in the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 12-15 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through, turning occasionally for even cooking.
- 6
Drain and Serve
Once cooked, remove the chicken from the oil and place it on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve hot.
