Method

For the Mozzarella Sticks

  1. 1

    Prepare the ingredients

Gather all ingredients and set them up in three separate bowls: one for flour, one for beaten eggs, and one for breadcrumbs mixed with Parmesan, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.

  2. 2

    Coat the mozzarella sticks

Take each mozzarella stick and dip it first in the flour, ensuring it's fully coated. Then dip it into the beaten eggs, allowing any excess to drip off. Finally, roll it in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere the crumbs.

  3. 3

    Chill the coated sticks

Place the coated mozzarella sticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and freeze them for at least 30 minutes. This will help them maintain their shape while frying.

  4. 4

    Heat the oil

In a deep skillet or fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  5. 5

    Fry the mozzarella sticks

Working in batches, carefully add the frozen mozzarella sticks to the hot oil. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Remove them with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

For the Marinara Sauce

  1. 6

    Sauté the aromatics

In a saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for about 3-4 minutes until translucent. Then add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.

  2. 7

    Add the tomatoes and seasonings

Pour in the canned crushed tomatoes along with the dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. Stir to combine.

  3. 8

    Simmer the sauce

Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer and let it cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly.

  4. 9

    Serve

Once the mozzarella sticks are fried and the marinara sauce is ready, serve the mozzarella sticks hot with a side of marinara sauce for dipping.
