Preparation Instructions

  1. 1

    Make the Dough

In a large bowl, combine whole wheat flour and salt. Mix well. Add yogurt and oil, then gradually pour in water while kneading the mixture until a soft dough forms. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and allow it to rest for at least 30 minutes.

  2. 2

    Divide the Dough

After resting, knead the dough again for a few minutes. Divide the dough into 6 equal portions and roll each portion into a ball.

  3. 3

    Roll the Roti

On a lightly floured surface, take one dough ball and flatten it slightly. Using a rolling pin, roll it out into a circle about 6-8 inches in diameter, ensuring it's not too thick.

  4. 4

    Cook the Roti

Preheat the tandoor or a heavy skillet over high heat. Place the rolled-out dough onto the tandoor's inner wall or the skillet. Cook for 1-2 minutes until you see bubbles forming, then flip and cook for another minute until lightly charred.

  5. 5

    Serve

Remove the tandoori roti from the tandoor or skillet and brush lightly with melted butter or ghee, if desired. Serve warm.
