Method

Dough Preparation

1

Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water (1.5 cups) and granulated sugar (1 tbsp). Sprinkle the active dry yeast (2 tsp) over the top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes, or until it becomes frothy.

2

Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour (4 cups) and salt (1 tsp). Mix well.

3

Combine Ingredients

Once the yeast is activated, pour it into the bowl with the dry ingredients. Add vegetable oil (2 tbsp) and mix until a shaggy dough forms.

4

Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Filling Preparation

5

Prepare Filling

In a large bowl, combine ground pork (1 lb), green onions (3 stalks, finely chopped), minced garlic (2 cloves), grated ginger (1 tbsp), soy sauce (2 tbsp), oyster sauce (1 tbsp), sesame oil (1 tsp), and salt and pepper to taste. Mix well until all ingredients are fully incorporated.

Assemble and Steam

6

Divide and Shape Dough

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it back to a floured surface. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and then flatten it into a circle (about 4 inches in diameter).

7

Fill the Buns

Place about 1-2 tablespoons of the pork filling in the center of each dough circle. Gather the edges of the dough and pinch them together to seal the filling inside.

8

Prepare Steamer

Line a bamboo or metal steamer with parchment paper to prevent sticking. Place the buns in the steamer, leaving space between each bun to allow for expansion.

9

Steam Buns

Bring water to a boil in a pot. Place the steamer over the pot, cover it, and steam the buns for about 15-20 minutes, or until the buns are fluffy and cooked through.

Serve

10

Enjoy

Carefully remove the buns from the steamer and let them cool slightly before serving. Enjoy your steamed pork buns with your favorite dipping sauce!
