Method

For the Mozzarella Sticks

  1. 1

    Prepare the Coating

In three separate shallow bowls, place the flour, beaten eggs, and breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.

  2. 2

    Coat the Cheese Sticks

Dip each mozzarella stick first in the flour, ensuring it is fully coated. Shake off any excess flour. Next, dip it into the beaten eggs, allowing any excess to drip off. Finally, roll the stick in the breadcrumb mixture until fully coated. Repeat for all cheese sticks.

  3. 3

    Freeze the Coated Sticks

Place the coated mozzarella sticks on a baking sheet and freeze for at least 30 minutes to firm them up.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  5. 5

    Fry the Sticks

Carefully add the frozen mozzarella sticks to the hot oil, frying them in batches if necessary. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove them with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

For the Marinara Sauce

  1. 6

    Sauté the Garlic

In a saucepan over medium heat, heat the olive oil and sauté the minced garlic until fragrant, about 1 minute.

  2. 7

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Add the canned crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar to the saucepan. Stir well to combine.

  3. 8

    Simmer the Sauce

Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Adjust seasoning if necessary.

  4. 9

    Finish with Basil

Stir in the chopped fresh basil just before serving.
