Method
For the Calamari
- 1
Prepare the Calamari
Rinse the calamari rings under cold water, then pat them dry with paper towels.
- 2
Make the Breading Mix
In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder. Mix well.
- 3
Soak in Buttermilk
Place the calamari rings in another bowl and pour the buttermilk over them. Allow them to soak for about 10-15 minutes.
- 4
Bread the Calamari
Remove the calamari from the buttermilk, shaking off any excess, and then dredge them in the flour mixture until well coated.
- 5
Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan, heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 6
Fry the Calamari
Carefully add the breaded calamari rings to the hot oil in small batches. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
- 7
Drain and Serve
Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried calamari from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Season with additional salt if desired.
For the Spicy Marinara Sauce
