For the Steamed Buns

Method

For the Asian BBQ Pork

  1. 1

    Prepare the Marinade

In a bowl, mix soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, minced garlic, grated ginger, five-spice powder, sesame oil, and water.

  2. 2

    Marinate the Pork

Place the pork shoulder in a large resealable bag and pour the marinade over it. Seal the bag and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.

  3. 3

    Cook the Pork

Preheat the oven to 150°C (300°F). Transfer the marinated pork to a roasting pan, cover with foil, and roast for about 3-4 hours or until tender. Shred the pork and mix it with the sauce.

For the Steamed Buns

  1. 4

    Make the Dough

In a bowl, combine flour, instant yeast, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add warm water and vegetable oil. Knead until smooth, then let rise for 1 hour.

  2. 5

    Shape the Buns

Divide the dough into small pieces, roll each piece into a circle, and place a spoonful of the shredded pork in the center. Fold the dough over to seal and shape into a bun.

  3. 6

    Steam the Buns

Place buns on parchment paper in a steamer. Steam over boiling water for about 15-20 minutes.

For the Asian Slaw

  1. 7

    Combine the Slaw Ingredients

In a large bowl, mix shredded cabbage, grated carrot, chopped green onions, and cilantro.

  2. 8

    Dress the Slaw

Drizzle with lime juice and sesame oil, then season with salt to taste. Toss to combine.
